Kindergarten- Goals and perseverance. What is a goal? Read The Little Engine that Could. What are our goals at school? Can we meet them if we can "I can't" or if we don't try? How CAN we meet our learner goals?

1st Grade- Goals and perseverance. What is a goal? What do we need to do to meet our goals? Read The Tortoise and the Hare. Who made their goal? How? We have been talking about skills for being learners; what are goals we could set and how could we work toward them?

2nd- Learner skills. Review listening, following directions, and self-control. Discuss staying on task and why it is important. Read I Just Want to Do It MY WAY! Practice the steps for staying on task in class.

March 7-11

3rd Grade- Testing. Started reading and discussing Tyler Tames the Testing Tiger.

4th Grade- Testing. Discussed some different strategies for taking a test. Took a practice test and discovered WHY using those strategies (specifically reading and FOLLOWING directions) is important! :)

5th Grade- Testing. Talked about different tips and strategies for taking tests. Used a different kind of organizer for writing information as an example of a way to study or record information.

Feb 29-March 4

Kindergarten- Learner skills. Talked about rules and expectations at school. Read Kevin Knows the Rules. Learned the steps of whole body listening and Mrs. Hoell's LISTEN song.

1st Grade- Reviewed personal space and the steps of whole body listening. Sang Mrs. Hoell's LISTEN song. Discussed the importance of listening and when it is hard to be a good listener. Sometimes we might not want/like to listen when we don't like the answer we are getting. Read I Just Don't Like the Sound of No. Reviewed and practiced the steps for accepting "no" and disagreeing appropriately.

2nd Grade- Reviewed the steps of whole body listening and Mrs. Hoell's LISTEN song. When are some times we might need to stop and think before we act to be successful at school? Read My Mouth is a Volcano. Discussed how interrupting keeps us from learning. Practiced the steps from the book for waiting for our turn to speak.
