Kindergarten: Last lesson we started talking about feelings. This week we reviewed our 4 basic feelings (happy, sad, mad, scared) and practiced showing others how we feel and identifying how others feel. We read Cloud's Best Worst Day Ever. We used the story to talk about good vs bad choices to make when we are upset. I asked the kiddos to think about how their body feels when they are sad, mad, scared, happy. We practiced taking deep breaths to calm our bodies when we have upset feelings. The main character, Cloud, visited us to help with our discussions!
First Grade: We reviewed the basic feelings and some other feelings. We used the book The Way I Feel to identify feelings in others by the way they look, what is happening to them, and how they are responding. We discussed how to express feelings effectively and appropriately.
Second Grade: We reviewed feelings. We talked about tough feelings like anger. We discussed what makes different people mad and how to express those feelings. We talked about what happens when we don't get our feelings out in a positive way--we might make a bad choice OR if we don't express our feelings at all it can make us feel sick. Eventually those feelings WILL come out and we might EXPLODE! We did a little experiment to see that in action :)
**The video is below. I didn't include kids or kid conversation to protect their privacy.
We also talked about how making negative choices with our feelings impacts others. Our feelings are contagious and they can spread (negative or positive). Read Andrew's Angry Words.
