st- Feelings. We read The Way I Feel and used the book to practiced identifying feelings in ourselves and others.
nd- Feelings. We talked about identifying feelings in ourselves and others. We used my feelings thumb ball to express different feelings and talk about what situations might cause those feelings.
rd- Conflict resolution. We talked about positive ways to solve problems and conflicts with other people. Discussed fairness: fair doesn't always mean equal! Used STAR problem solving steps to solve example situations.
th- Point of View. Finished up talking about cooperation and teamwork with a conversation about seeing things from others' perspective. If we only focus on what WE see/think, it can create unnecessary negative feelings/ problems. When we listen to each other, we may not agree, but we can often understand others better.
th- Thoughts-Feelings-Actions lesson – We discussed how events happen that impact our thought-feeling-action triangle. We talked about how thoughts can be helpful or uncomfortable. Using different scenarios, we practiced “switching” thoughts from uncomfortable to helpful and how that impacted our feelings. We talked about possible actions that we might do based on our thoughts and feelings. Students were given a “thought record” to write down switches that they make throughout the week.
