We are learning to be problem solving STARs! We learned out cheer and talked about the steps.
S: Stop! We learned and practiced coping strategies to calm our bodies when we have big feelings. Once we are calm we have to decide if the problem is kid sized (we can try to solve it) or adult sized (an adult will need to solve this problem). We took turns drawing slips of paper with a problem written on them. Then we would spin the wheel of coping strategies and practice calming down before deciding if the problem was kid or adult sized.
T: Think! If a problem is kid sized we can try to solve it. We brainstormed solutions to kid sized problems.
A: Act! We read What Should Danny Do? and helped the main character make choices that would make his problem better NOT bigger.
R: Review! We read on in the story to see if the solution we chose helped or if we need to go back and try again.
First Grade- Coping Strategies.
We reviewed our breathing strategies from last class and then learned about using our 5 senses to do "grounding." Some classes had a little extra time and also tried out a guided relaxation script to calm our minds and bodies.
Second Grade- Coping Strategies.

Third Grade- We reviewed conflict resolution and big feelings. We talked about coping strategies and made a list of strategies we could use to calm big feelings. We started to make coping strategy "fortune tellers" to help us choose strategies we can use!
(fortune tellers were downloaded from ELSA Support: https://www.elsa-support.co.uk/)
