4th grade- We worked on demonstrating respect for others’ personal opinions and ideas. We talked about some ways we are all different and how we can be respectful to all people. We focused on different ideas/opinions (like when working in a group) and how we could work together even when we disagree. We did a four-corners activity to show how our opinions can often be different from others and that's a good thing! It's OK to disagree, but never ok to disrespect.
5th grade- We talked about bullying. We identified the three roles in a bullying situation: the person with bullying behavior, the target, and the bystander. I divided the class into three groups and each group had to practice working together to read a book and be able to report back to the class about it. The groups read Tough, Dare, and Weird. The books were all different perspectives on the same bullying situation. We talked about the roles, feelings, and solutions of the three characters. We briefly discussed passive, aggressive, and assertive problem solving.
