We also went over HOW to ask an adult for help (tone, volume, words). We read A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue. 3rd grade- Diversity: Recognize and respect the differences between personal culture and other cultures. We defined prejudice, discrimination, and culture. We talked about how it is okay to disagree with others, but we always need to be respectful. We read Children Around the World and made connections between our lives and the lives of kiddos in other parts of the world. The students wrote about themselves and their own families and shared a little with the students around them.
4th grade- Bullying. We reviewed the importance of being respectful of others' ideas and opinions. We took a quiz about bullying using SENTEOS (see picture and description below). As we reviewed our responses we talked about different types of bullying (physical, social/emotional-excluding, spreading rumors, demeaning, etc.), why bullying is NOT okay, and what to do if it happens to you or you see it happening to someone else. We defined bullying as: Unkind behavior toward a person over and over on purpose. 5th grade- Diversity/Positive Self Concept. We talked about how everyone is different, but each of us have equal value!! We brainstormed things that cause us to think less of ourselves, but how even when we are "crumpled" we are still worth the same! We talked about things we can say and do to protect our self-concept and how others think about themselves, too. We focused on being respectful to ALL people. All my classes had an underlying theme of respect for others this week. :) 1st grade- Diversity. We talked about ways we are all different and how being different is a good thing! We read The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin and did pumpkin glyphs to show how we are different.
2nd grade- Diversity. We are learning about how families and traditions are different. We brainstormed some ways that families can be different from each other. A couple of the classes had time to try eating Cheerios with chopsticks. |
