We are continuing to talk about friendship! We read How to Lose All Your Friends and talked about some things that would cause us to lose friends. We did a couple little Science experiments with pepper, balloons, and soap to show how friendly behaviors attract our peers, but unkind behaviors may repel them.
We practiced introducing ourselves to each other and shaking hands!
First Grade:
We started talking about coping strategies for big or uncomfortable feelings. We learned and practiced several breathing strategies including soup/hot chocolate breathing, shape breathing, and exploding potato breaths!
Second Grade:
We talked about coping strategies for big or uncomfortable feelings. We reviewed breathing strategies then spent some time doing guided imagery and some A-Z mindful creature brain breaks.
Third Grade:
We reviewed our positive problem solving skills then talked about positive coping strategies for handling the big feelings that can go along with problems. We brainstormed and practiced strategies that Mrs. Hoell has taught us before and some that the students had learned in other places.
Fourth Grade:
We reviewed the importance of seeing others' point of view. We then talked about the importance of positive self talk. We thought about some negative things people say to themselves sometimes and the steps for turning those negative thoughts around. We looked at lists of positive affirmations and students picked the ones that were most meaningful to them.
