1st & 2nd- Coping Strategies. We reviewed big feelings and how our body lets us know we are having those feelings. The we talked about different breathing strategies we can use to cope with big emotions.
3rd- Conflict resolution. We talked about what "fair" means and a system of solving conflicts (problems between people) that will allow everyone to "win:" STAR problem solving!
4th- Positive Self-Talk. We reviewed point of view and why it is important to see situations from different view points. We also talked about HOW to do that--by thinking, asking questions, listening, being open to ideas, etc. Then we talked about why positive self-talk is important. We made a list of negative things we might say to ourselves and what positive things we could say instead. I handed out a list of 150 positive statements and had students start picking some to practice for themselves!
5th- They and We decisions. When people make choices for us that can cause big feelings and we need strategies and self control to make a good choice. Making decisions WITH other people can also be hard! How can we make choices together?
