Then, my younger grades played a little game. All they had to do was follow the directions. They put their hands up, made silly faces, and clapped, but they got stuck when they couldn't make ME put up MY hands or make it rain outside! The game helped us start talking about things that ARE in our control and things that are not.
We talked about how we feel when things don't go our way and discussed that sometimes the things that we are upset about are things we can't change because they are not in our control. The one thing we CAN control is ourselves and how we respond to problems and big feelings.
Kindergarten read "What Should Danny Do?" and helped Danny make good choices at home even when things weren't going his way.
1st grade read "What Should Danny Do? School Day" and helped Danny make good choices at school even when things weren't going his way.
2nd-5th used the Google slides in Schoology to guide a conversation about what we can control and what to do about the things we can't control.
