We reviewed different feelings and practiced making feeling faces to identify what feelings look like on other people's faces and look and feel like in/on our bodies. We read The Color Monster to review some different feelings people often have. Then we used The Magic Coloring Book of Feelings to look at different faces and situations to identify feelings. We also used our feelings to color the book!
We started talking about what we want in a friend. We read the book Wanted: Best Friend and then made our own paper person and brainstormed what qualities WE would want in a friend.
1st- Personal Safety. Finished up the Second Steps lessons about personal safety.
2nd- Personal Safety. Finished up the Second Steps lessons about personal safety.
3rd- Rumors. We thought we were talking about respect and we spread our respect paste all around before we discovered it was RUMOR PASTE! We discussed what a rumor is (a story that isn't ours to tell that spreads around) and how they can hurt other people. We tried to take the rumor back, but discovered that it's nearly impossible. Talked about Mrs. Hoell's Rumor Rules.
4th- Cooperation. Pairs of students tried to earn stickers by following certain directions. They THOUGHT they were arm wrestling and were working against each other, but when they realized they could work together they were way more successful! We talked about times at school students need to work together or cooperate and strategies for doing that.
5th- Coping Skills – We practiced different yoga positions and decided which ones would help us when we have uncomfortable feelings. Students created books with five stances that they would use throughout the week. Students were encouraged to “catch” their uncomfortable feelings and go directly into a yoga pose while using deep breathing exercises.
